Christophe, can you tell us what a ruminant species specialist does?

I’m a specialist ruminant engineer attached to TECHNA FRANCE NUTRITION. In this role, we provide expertise in animal nutrition and husbandry. Some of our time is also spent on R&D activities. I’m the dedicated contact for my French and international customers. Our goal is to support them in the development of their activities.

What does your job entail day to day?

My missions are varied. The objective is to enable the farmer customers of feed manufacturers to increase the technical and economic efficiency of their operations. To bring them the best solutions, we draw our expertise and responses from research, trials and international scientific publications, as well as the training programmes we take part in. We’re in daily contact with researchers as well as our partner manufacturers’ technical teams. The themes we tackle are varied: formulation, animal husbandry, nutrition, performance data interpretation. We sometimes take part in upstream reflection processes concerning specific projects (expansion, intensification, diversification, efficiency, savings, profitability, etc.), we train technicians in technical innovations and we help them acquire new knowledge in the field of herd management and nutrition.
